A Salt Lake man accused of shooting his son to death on July 5 has been ordered to stand trial.
Robert E. Eliason, 58, 611 W. First South, is charged with manslaughter, a second-degree felony, in the death of Michael Eliason, 33, Mt. Pleasant.Eliason appeared in a preliminary hearing Thursday before 3rd Circuit Judge Floyd Gowans, who ruled that enough evidence exists to support the charges. Eliason was ordered to appear Aug. 5 before 3rd District Judge Homer Wilkinson.
According to the charges, Eliason earlier had had a fight with his son Billy Eliason, at 611 W. First South. After the fight, Billy and Michael Eliason were outside the home. Robert Eliason approached them with a .22-caliber handgun and fired several shots, one of which struck Michael in the chest, the complaint states.
Billy Eliason fled the scene, police said.
