Search-and-rescue divers have retrieved the body of a 20-year-old drowning victim from a lake in the High Uintas.

Duchesne County Sheriff Clair Poulson said the victim's name was not released pending notification of relatives. The victim had been fishing with a friend on Grandaddy Lake in the Ashley National Forest on Wednesday, Poulson said, and because fishing wasn't too good had started swimming to an island.

The Wasatch Front-area man was within 35 yards of the shore when he went under.

His companion tried to rescue his friend but he suffered cramps, the sheriff said.

Deputies Thursday also located a mentally retarded woman reported missing in the Mirror Lake area.

The unidentified woman had been on an outing Wednesday with the Salt Lake County Mental Health Center when she became lost, Poulson said.

She was cold, frightened and bruised from falling, he said, but was otherwise in good shape.
