New York's Metropolitan Opera is planning a part-time move to the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Majestic Theater as part of an experiment scheduled to start with the 1991 season.
The newly restored Majestic will provide the backdrop for new and small-scale works and for innovative productions that may not be suitable for performances at the Metropolitan Opera House in Lincoln Center, said Bruce Crawford, the Met's general manager. The arrangement is based on an agreement in principle, and no contracts have been signed, The New York Times reported this week. The productions are to be jointly presented by the Met and BAM.
The Majestic has presented vaudevill, movies and plays. The theater was restored last year.
