The Bountiful City Council approved spending half of a $200,000 budget surplus to fund a new computer system for city hall Wednesday night.
Replacement of the old system is estimated to save $112,000 over the next five years and also bring $67,000 when it is resold. Because present technology will soon be outdated, now is the best time to replace the system, according to City Manager Tom Hardy. The system is used by city departments including fire and police departments. Computer software can be easily transferred to the new computer.
The budget surplus comes from building permit revenues and cable television franchise taxes.
