A Provo man charged with trying to kill his wife has been bound over to 4th District Court and will be arraigned Aug. 5.

Faitau Owen Tipa, 34 N. Fourth East, was bound over Tuesday following a preliminary hearing before 4th Circuit Judge Lynn W. Davis. Tipa is charged with attempted murder, a second-degree felony, in the July 15 shooting of Edna Tipa.According to police, the victim was taken to Utah Valley Regional Medical Center following the 6:18 a.m. incident. She was treated for a gunshot wound to the chest and later was released.

Faitau Tipa, 33, who is being held in the Utah County Jail, requested that Davis reduce his $50,000 bail. But Davis, ruling that both the defendant and the community would be safer with Tipa in jail, followed a recommendation by Deputy Utah County Attorney Kent Barry and increased bail to $100,000.
