The trial of a Salt Lake City man accused of defrauding at least eight people who invested in his company will begin Sept. 19 in 8th District Court.

Court clerks said Tuesday that retired Utah County Judge Allen Sorensen will preside over the trial of Michael R. Moore, who is charged with eight counts of making fradulent misrepresentations to investors.Moore initially was charged in October 1987 with nine counts, but one of the alleged victims later died, said prosecutors.

"Much of the money invested by the victims in Duchesne County was lost," said assistant Utah Attorney General Robert Parrish. He said residents invested hundreds of thousands of dollars in Moore's American Factoring Company during 1982 and 1983.

If convicted, Moore could be sentenced to a maximum three years in prison and a $10,000 fine on each count. He is free without bond pending the outcome of the legal proceedings.
