Armenian dissident Parury Airikyan, expelled from the Soviet Union for "anti-Soviet activity," has asked for political asylum in the United States, a U.S. Embassy spokesman in Addis Ababa said Wednesday. He said Airikyan, disgraced after Armenian nationalist disturbances in the central Soviet Union, was flown with his wife and three children. An embassy source said the case was being given priority Ayrikyan, who served 17 years in soviet prisons and labor camps, was in frequent contact with western journalists earlier this year when armenians began a drive to annex the disputed Nagerno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.
