A West Valley girl was critically injured Monday when her car left the freeway five miles north of Mona, Juab County.

Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Steve Pelton said Christine Taylor, 17, was driving north on I-15 when her car left the freeway, crossed the median, and rolled at about 3 p.m.Taylor was thrown from the vehicle into the southbound lane of traffic.

Pelton said Taylor received serious head injuries and was taken by ambulance to Central Valley Medical Center. She was later transferred to LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City by Life Flight helicopter.

She was reported in stable but critical condition in intensive care Tuesday morning.

A passenger in Taylor's car, Lori Claybaugh, 17, South Jordan, wasn't thrown from the car and received cuts, bruises, and abrasions. She was treated at Central Valley Medical Center and released.

"Neither girl was wearing seat belts," said Pelton. If they had been, neither one of them would have been injured, he said.
