A longtime telephone industry worker has sued AT&T Technologies Inc. and related companies for injuries resulting from exposure to microwave communications equipment.

George Richardson of Pocatello claimed the companies were negligent because they failed to warn him that the microwave equipment was hazardous to his health and failed to protect him from harm. The suit, filed by Richardson and his wife, Barbara, in Pocatello's federal court, asked for more than $6.5 million in general and punitive damages. It claimed Richardson's exposure to microwaves caused extreme hypersensitivity to microwaves, difficulties with eyesight and a severe impact on his nervous system.
