We live in the era of the referendum.

When KKAT Radio recently learned that the country singing group Alabama plans to bypass Utah on its tour this year, the station sponsored a petition drive. To date some 3,000 Bama fans have signed the thing. At the KKAT 24th of July Warm-Up Party on Sunday night at Fred Meyer, the station hopes to score another thousand names.

Then, with dignified aplomb, KKAT disc jockey Jay Byrd will hand deliver the papers to Alamaba during their concert in Southern California.

"I can't say for sure," he says, "but I think we're going to convince them to schedule Utah in."

Ah, the power of the people.
