A 30-year-old Provo woman who was shot in the chest last week is in satisfactory condition at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center while her husband waits in the Utah County Jail facing an attempted murder charge.

Edna Tipa, 34 N. Fourth East, Apt. 2, was taken to the hospital following the 6:18 a.m. incident July 15.The victim's husband, Faitau Owen Tipa, 33, of the same address, was taken into custody by Provo police and later charged with attempted murder, a second degree felony. He is being held in jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Police responded to a call from the residence for an attempted suicide, but found conflicting reports after talking with the victim, Cpt. George Peirpont said.

Faitau Tipa's preliminary hearing is scheduled Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Provo 4th Circuit Court. The Utah County Attorney's office is asking that he take mental competency exams.
