A car driven by a California man was split in half Saturday morning on I-15 at 53rd South after the driver of a northbound truck veered across the freeway divider and collided with the southbound vehicle.
Utah Highway Patrol Trooper Julia Clayton said Elizabeth Davidson, 19, 8883 S. Cameo Way, Sandy, fell asleep while driving a pickup truck northbound on I-15 at 8:20 a.m., traveled across the freeway divider and collided with the southbound vehicle driven by Martin Carlson, 67, Westminster, Calif. The impact was severe enough to split the car into two separate sections.Davidson was treated at Holy Cross Hospital for a broken shoulder and later released. Carlson and his wife, Beverly, 53, were transferred to Holy Cross Hospital where they were both listed in fair condition.
"They really are quite lucky that it wasn't more serious," Clayton said. "The driver missed another car when she came through - it's lucky no one else was hit."
