New Mexico Athletic Director John Koenig resigned Friday, telling the university president he had received inappropriate money for travel and entertainment expenses.
UNM President Gerald May announced Koenig's resignation during a news conference on the school campus. "John has acknowledged that he inadvertently received inappropriate reimbursements and has offered to repay them," said May.May did not specify how much money Koenig had agreed to repay the university, noting an audit had not been completed.
The Albuquerque Tribune last week reported five double payments to Koenig. The newspaper said it found the double-dipping examining credit card statements and receipts, travel vouchers and reimbursement payments.
