Former NHL goaltender Wayne Thomas on Friday was named head coach of the St. Louis Blues' minor league affiliate in Peoria, Ill., the club announced.

Thomas, 40, was an assistant coach with the Chicago Blackhawks last season. Previously he was head coach for two seasons at Salt Lake City, leading the team to the Turner Cup Championship, given to the International Hockey League playoff champion, in 1986-87.He also set records for victories (44 in 1985-86) and points (90 in 1986-87) in a season at Salt Lake City.
