July 25 will serve this year as Pioneer Day, an official state holiday, and a number of state and city businesses will be closed.
Most public utilities and government offices will not be open Monday. Parking at all downtown locations will be free. Local banks will also close.Utah Transit Authority buses will not run Monday, but all buses will be back in service Tuesday, including several new vehicles equipped to transport disabled riders.
The Postal Service will operate as usual. Express mail and delivery services will be functioning, as well as mail collection and dispatch. Garbage collection will also continue as usual.
Although Pioneer Day, honoring the arrival of Mormon pioneers into the Salt Lake Valley, is usually celebrated July 24, the holiday was moved forward a day this year because the 24th falls on a Sunday.
