The Rev. Lawrence Jenco, a Catholic priest held hostage in Lebanon for 19 months, and the family of Ben Linder, a U.S. engineer killed in Nicaragua, protested a visit by former White House aide Oliver North.

About 400 protesters, many chanting "When Ollie lies, justice dies," circled a grassy area across the street from the hotel where North spoke Thursday to a less-than-full house.Reacting to North's visit, Jenco said, "Somewhere along the line, I understand the Constitution one way and he understands it another way."

Jenco, 53, headed the Catholic Relief Services office in Beirut when he was abducted in January 1985. He was released in June 1986 and moved to Portland this year to work at The Grotto, a shrine run by the Jesuit Servite order.
