Five landing craft carrying 4,000 members of the U.S. Marines' ground assault forces docked here Friday for their first land exercise in Israel, military sources said.

The commander of the U.S. Sixth Fleet, Rear-Admiral Kendall Moran-ville, disclosed earlier this week that the Marines were to be allowed to exercise on land in the near future.The five ships were a tank landing ship, an amphibious cargo ship, a dock landing ship, an amphibious assault ship that carries 30 helicopters and an amphibious transporter carrying six aircraft.
