It may be July-hot outside, but Santa Claus is coming to town.
On July 22, the jolly old elf will visit homeless families at Salt Lake City's family shelter at Sixth South and Seventh West during a "Christmas in July" celebration, complete with a Christmas tree, gifts, rides in horse-drawn carriages. The event is organized and sponsored by the Salt Lake Board of Realtors. Brunch will begin at 10:30 a.m., and St. Nick will arrive about 11 a.m., according to reliable sources from the North Pole. Carriage rides will start shortly thereafter.
"People's needs continue year-round," said Dan Lawler, president of the realtors organization, which also sponsors a New Year's Day meal and provides continuing support for the homeless. "Many of these families have faced some very tough times, and we thought this would be a fun way to bring some magic into the lives of these little children."
