Second quarter sales were up almost 80 percent from last year for Utah Medical Products Inc., a manufacturer and marketer of proprietary medical products for use primarily in the critical care areas of hospitals, company president William Dean Wallace said.

Sales for the second quarter were $3 million, an increase of 79 percent from the $1.6 million reported for the second quarter of 1987.Net earnings increased 236 percent to a new record of $352,820 or 5 cents per share from the $105,118 or 2 cents per share reported for the same period last year. Weighted average shares outstanding were 7.5 million vs. 6.7 million in the second quarter of 1987.

For the first six months of this year, sales were $5.5 million or an increase of 64 percent from the $3.3 million reported for the first six months of 1987.

Net earnings for the six-month period were $607,104 or 8 cents per share compared with $277,410 or 4 cents per share for the same period last year, an increase of 119 percent.
