Steve Pearson, 30, general manager of the Salt Lake Trappers baseball team, has been hired as the director of external affairs in the Weber State College Athletic Department.

Pearson will head up all the marketing, promotions and fund raising for the Wildcats, said athletic director Mike Price. He will assume his new position on August 1, pending approval by the WSC Institutional Council.Pearson, a native of Salt Lake City and a University of Utah graduate, has been the Trapper GM since 1984.

Implementing a marketing and sales strategy, Pearson increased the Trappers attendance by 198 percent and revenues 179 percent over the three year period he has been with the club. In 1985, he was named the Pioneer League executive of the year.

"Steve will put a lot excitement into a new era of Weber State sports," said Price. "He did a tremendous job in promotions and ticket sales with the Trappers and we feel he can bring that expertise to us."

Before his stint with the Trappers, Pearson spent two seasons as the marketing and promotions manager for the Salt Lake Gulls Triple A baseball team for two seasons. He also has worked as a sales representative for Litton Industries in Houston, Texas and for the Utah Jazz.

Pearson and his wife, Judith, are the parents of a five-week-old daughter, Emalee Sarah.
