The Salt Lake Trappers defeated the Helena Brewers, 4-0 Tuesday night, for their ninth win in their last 11 games.
The Trappers improved their season record to 19-10, which is good for a first-place tie with Butte in the Pioneer League's Southern Division. Butte defeated Billings, 10-2, Tuesday.Bill Wenrick, who has been with the Trappers for just two weeks, hurled a four-hitter to raise his record to 3-0. He had five strikeouts and walked two while pitching 81/3 innings. Lee Carballo got the last two outs.
The Trappers scored three of their runs in the first inning, the final two coming across on a two-out single by Mando Verdugo. They added their last one in the fourth when Verdugo scored on a throwing error.
Verdugo and Jeff Allison had two hits.
The Trappers begin a seven-game homestand Wednesday night, beginning with a four-game series with Medicine Hat, followed by a three-game series with Helena.
