The national governing body of tennis has awarded the Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation Department a special grant to expand recreational tennis opportunities for local youth.
The U.S. Tennis Association grant will help the department introduce more youngsters to tennis, especially those who would not otherwise have an opportunity to participate in the sport, said Jan Donchess, coordinator of the county's tennis program. The county program features both recreational and competitive play with emphasis on participation, good sportsmanship and fun. All youth between the ages of 6 and 18 are invited to participate.
The program's Learn to Play segment offers instruction in basic tennis skills and court etiquette from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays for $15 per session.
Adult and youth private, semi-private and group lessons are also offered. For more information, phone Salt Lake County Recreation at 468-2560.
