A Cuban national driving near the Utah-Arizona border died in a one-car accident shortly after 7 a.m. Monday.

Nelson R. Asencio, 36, a Havana native living in Gunlock, Washington County, was apparently going too fast when he entered a turn on U-91, lost control and ran into a ditch. The stretch of road was the primary highway connecting St. George and Las Vegas before I-15 was built but is now a rather secluded highway, a Utah Highway Patrol dispatcher said.Highway officials did not know how long the man had been living in Utah.
