Bumper-to-bumper traffic is likely this weekend as residents race to celebrate the arrival of the pioneers.
The Utah Department of Transportation is urging motorists to use extra caution as Monday is a holiday for many residents, and popular vacation and recreation areas are expected to be crowded.Although work on most highways in the state will be shut down during the weekend, UDOT spokeswoman Shirley Iverson said signs in construction zones telling motorists to slow down should be heeded.
Construction on I-15 at Point of the Mountain, from Lehi to Draper, has traffic limited to two narrow lanes in either direction. The Alpine Interchange is closed.
Lane closures are in store for motorists traveling I-80 from Wanship to Coalville, while the West Henefer Interchange on I-80 is closed, Iverson said.
Lane restrictions are possible along U-224 from I-80 to Park City, and U-248 from Park City to the junction of U.S. 40 will have heavy truck traffic. Slowed traffic is expected on U.S. 189 through Provo Canyon, she said.
