Rebels fired rockets into the Afghan capital of Kabul Tuesday morning, and one missile blast killed eight people and wounded nine, the Soviet news agency Tass reported from Afghanistan.

It was the second reported bombardment of Kabul in five days.Tass said rockets rained down on city streets and crossroads as people went to work. The only known casualty toll was from the rocket that exploded in the city's Khairkhan district, it said.

On Friday, 21 rockets were fired into residential areas of Kabul, killing 20 people, wounding 34 and damaging a mosque and other buildings, Tass reported.

It blamed the attacks on insurgents fighting the Moscow-backed government of President Najib.
