Just in time for the Pioneer Day weekend, the Great Salt Lake State Park Beach will begin charging entrance fees, the state Department of Natural Resources says.

A $3 fee for each car, with a maximum of eight occupants, and $1 walk-in fee will be charged starting Saturday, said Park Superintendent John Malmborg.Construction on the beach is almost done, and when finished, the park will offer new restrooms with showers and dressing rooms. The beach disappeared in 1983 from the bulging Great Salt Lake.

"The addition of these facilities will greatly enhance the park visitors experience at the Great Salt Lake," Malmborg said. "We receive nearly 2,000 visitors each weekend."
