Members of the Children's Dance Theatre, with an entourage of 55 travelers, departed Salt Lake City Saturday, headed for appearances in London.
Joining the ranks of University of Utah groups touring abroad, they will represent the United States at the Dance and the Child International Conference, July 19-28, which focuses on young people ages 3-18.Artistic director Mary Ann Lee will present her selected troupe of 37 dancers from CDT in five pieces from their repertory: "Anna and the Echo Catcher," "Celebration," "Exuberance," "Roots and Wings" and "Bus Dance.
"The international exchange between educators, artists and young performers will be an extraordinary experience for the dancers. Even though we may not speak the same language, we share the joy of movement and dance as an art form," said Lee.
CDT dancers will be delegates, in addition to their performance schedule. They will work closely with young people from around the world in technique classes, choreographic sessions, and workshops in art, drama and music. They will return to Salt Lake City on Aug. 4.
