Iran recovered nine more decomposed bodies from the Persian Gulf from the Iran Air jetliner shot down in a U.S. missile attack, Tehran radio said Saturday.
The radio, monitored in Nicosia, said the remains were found in the past two days, bringing to 179 the number of bodies pulled from the gulf.All 290 people on board the plane were killed when it was shot down by the U.S. Navy on July 3. The United States said the USS Vincennes downed the plane after mistaking it for a jet fighter.
The radio report said the bodies will be taken to the southern Iranian port of Bandar Abbas for identification. The plane was flying from Bandar Abbas to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates when it was shot down.
