Interstate 84 westbound was reopened early Friday morning after debris from a collapsed overpass was finally removed.
The country road overpass fell on a moving van early Thursday after the truck veered across the highway and slammed into the supporting pylons. The driver of the Texas-based Sherwood Van Lines truck was killed, probably by the impact of the initial crash, Idaho State Police Cpl. Steve Hobbs said. But the collapsed concrete overpass crushed the van's cab and trailer.
The body of the truck driver, Harless Coleman, 56, of San Antonio, was removed from the wreckage at about 6:30 p.m.
Only the two sections of the overpass over the westbound lanes collapsed, but the interstate was closed in both directions.
John Schierman, Transportation department district maintenace enginner, said the two-lane overpass was safe but did not meet current engineering standards and the entire structure would eventurally be torn down.
