Salt Lake Mayor Palmer DePaulis Thursday said he resented gubernatorial candidate Merrill Cook's imitation of a mafioso during a press conference this week, calling it "in bad taste."
"I happen to be Italian; I have to be honest, I did feel a bit of resentment," Depaulis told reporters.Cook broke into an Italian accent Monday to attack Taxpayers for Utah, a group opposing the anti-tax movement Cook champions. Cook said the group was employing scare tactics by making tax cutters out as mafia members.
"I think it was in very bad taste, extremely bad taste," DePaulis said, "You take it personally . . . People have to be accountable for what they say."
Cook could not be reached for comment at press time Thursday.
