Actor James Garner is making a "remarkable" recovery following artery surgery last Friday, an operation postponed three months ago after doctors decided he needed an immediate quintuple heart bypass.

"He is doing quite well," said Ron Wise, spokesman for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. "He is up, out of his bed, and walking around in his room."

Garner, 60, starred in television's "Maverick" and "The Rockford Files," winning an Emmy for "Rockford."
