"Singin' in the Rain" will be Sunday's free movie at the new Trolley Square Cinemas, located on the south side of Trolley Square, in the series sponsored by the Deseret News and Cineplex Odeon Theaters.

A sellout (or free-out, if you will) in our earlier series of free movies, this is a return engagement for the 1953 musical-comedy that many international critics consider the best Hollywood musical ever made. The hilarious story has to do with Gene Kelly and Jean Hagen as a pair of romantically linked movie stars in the silent era who have trouble making the transition to sound because Hagen has a voice that would shatter glass. Enter Debbie Reynolds. Kelly falls in love with her, she dubs Hagen's voice and the laughs only stop long enough for a bevy of superb musical numbers.

Add to this Donald O'Connor's perfomance as the best friend (and his riotous "Make 'Em Laugh" number) and you have a gem of a movie.

"Singin' in the Rain" is an utter delight and will be shown Sunday at 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 p.m.

The remaining free films in this series are "The Sting" (Monday), "Doctor Zhivago" (Tuesday), "Ben-Hur" (Wednesday) and "You Can't Take It With You" (hursday).

Each movie will play only one day, but there will be several showings throughout that day. The screenings are free with an original ad for the series from the Deseret News (there is one in this section today). Simply present the ad at the box office for two free admissions - if you want to take more people, just collect more ads (no photocopies, please). You cannot purchase tickets to these films; seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.

The new Trolley Square Cinemas is a four-plex on the south side of Trolley Square, 602 E. Second South.
