The 563,114 visitors who streamed through the gates of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' historic Temple Square last month set a record.

It was the most tourists to ever visit Temple Square in a single month, said Joseph Horne, square director. But, said Horne, the record might not stand long.

"July is normally our biggest month, so it's possible that by the end of this month we could have another record."

More than 1.6 million visitors toured Temple Square during the first half of 1988 - a 20 percent increase from the same period last year, Horne said.
