Auditions for roles in two productions being staged by a new company planning to focus on LDS and family-oriented musicals and plays will be Wednesday and Thursday from 7 until 10 p.m. in Room 151 of the Dance Building on the University of Utah campus.

Producer Omar Hansen, an actor, teacher and MFA student at the U., said auditioners will be trying out for roles in "Saturday's Warrior" and "Star Child," which will be presented in repertory about the first of September.Roles are open for all ages, from 8 through adult. All performers must sing and be willing to dance. An accompanist will be provided.

The auditions will consist of singing 16 bars of music and doing cold readings from either of the scripts.

Hansen said the tentative title for his new troupe is The Restoration Company. Productions will probably be staged arena-style in a location yet to be finalized.

* CITY REP (Salt Lake Repertory Theatre) will hold auditions on Wednesday and Thursday from 6:30 until 9 p.m. at the Utah Theatre, 148 S. Main, for its August production of the Gilbert & Sullivan operetta, "The Pirates of Penzance."

Auditioners should be prepared to sing two light opera numbers, including one selection from "Pirates of Penzance" or any other Gilbert & Sullivan work.

Rehearsals for the production, under direction of Joanne M. Parker, will begin the week of July 18. Marilyn Montgomery will be choreographer.
