Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz says allegations that one of his assistants gave money to a player when they were on staff at Minnesota are unfounded.

Former Gophers tailback Pudgy Abercrombie told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune that Holtz referred the player to Jim Strong, an assistant to Holtz at Minnesota and Notre Dame, to get money.

Holtz, the keynote speaker Friday night at the University of Nevada-Reno Wolf Pack dinner, said Strong has passed a lie detector test given by the Indiana Highway Patrol. "I would be interested in whether Pudgy Abercrombie could pass a lie detector test," Holtz said.
