An Italian ferry and a Panamanian container ship collided in the Strait of Messina on Saturday, injuring at least three people, the Italian news agency ANSA said.

Three passengers on the ferry La Edra, which runs between Messina, Sicily, and Reggio Calabria on the mainland, were taken to a hospital for X-rays, the agency said. It said an unspecified number of others suffered bruises and contusions.The agency said port officials were investigating the accident, which occurred 1.7 miles off the point of San Raineri.
