TDI don't care one bit what any fans surmise of any coach at
any program and whether they view anything contrary to what I said. Fans of
that calibur don't make decisions for the university or the program.
Scores - Idaho Falls, ID said, "Dave Rose is a great coach and a fantastic
individual. He'll be at BYU for as long as he wants."If you
look at the posts from many of your fellow Cougar fans following BYU's loss
in the opening round of the NIT, one would surmise that Rose was viewed as
contrary to what you stated....I personally think he's a good
coach....it's his players' talent that is lacking.
Maybe BYU is viewed to be the better job since the Cougar's coach is only
required to teach offense.
Great job if you like to have low pay and an inferior talent. Great job.
ekWhere did you read, listen or see when Dave Rose was in the hot
seat? That might be wishful thinking on you part and that's pretty
sad.FYI...Dave Rose is a great coach and a fantastic individual.
He'll be at BYU for as long as he wants.
Ouch! Those on the hill are reeling, those in Ogden are amused and those in
Logan are going to get going.
@kaysvillecougar - while your post doesn't violate any of the DN rules, it
is does violate some rules of common sense. You seem to be under the opinion
that no one except BYU fans should be able to post on on articles about BYU and
if they have a difference of opinion that makes them a 'troll'. Maybe
you should consider that reasonable people might have a different opinion from
you or from the author of an article.
@CougsndawgsI know they want to forget how awful Utah basketball was just
a couple years ago and pretend that near-decade of mediocrity has magically
disappeared. U gotta earn it, a couple of decent years followed by a subpar year
doesn't erase the black hole that has been Ute basketball for the better
part of the 21st century.------I agree, this has been a
historical low point for our program. But then again, it could be worse:Since 2000:* Sweet 16: Utah 2 (BYU 1)* Tournament:
Utah 7-8 47% (BYU 4-11 26%).More importantly, lets look at the
current trends:* 2 top 25 teams (BYU 0)* 3-2 in the
tournament (BYU 0)* 3 NBA Draft picks (BYU 0)* In
2016-2017 Utah was picked to finish 8th with 10 new players ... finished 4th in
a 4 bid league.* BYU picked 3rd with thier Lone Peak "Final
Four" talent... finished 3rd in a 2 bid league.
Lol. Hyping up the position to see who comes sniffing around as Rose is in the
The Marriott Center is certainly better than the Hunstman Center, but
that's about the only advantage that BYU has over Utah in basketball. The
Utah gig far and away the better job. BYU is probably the toughest job in Utah.
So predictable that a BYU article would attract our typical ute trolls like
flies on . . . Anyway, the BYU basketball HC job is great except sometimes
expectations go a little too high from us, the fan base . . . and from our ute
trolls. What a great thing to go to the NCAA tourney almost every year. Dave
Rose is a great coach and we're lucky to have him. Here's hoping for
another good year.
I always have to laugh at these articles that, imo, are written more to rib Ute
fans than they are for BYU fans. Can't really blame the DNews for doing
it...in very short order we have the typical haters on to belittle the Y's
programs, coaches, and any writer who dares suggest BYU might actually have good
athletic programs.I know they want to forget how awful Utah
basketball was just a couple years ago and pretend that near-decade of
mediocrity has magically disappeared. U gotta earn it, a couple of decent years
followed by a subpar year doesn't erase the black hole that has been Ute
basketball for the better part of the 21st century.
LOLJust like the football assessment by some outlet recently.Citing byu-p's "potential" to upset teams and a postseason
streak against a slate of nobodies.Every time I see one of these
"press wins" for byu-p it always makes me question the credibility of
the writer.Reality:Success: UtahLeague: UtahPotential: UtahHistory: UtahArena: PushRecruiting: UtahFacilities: UtahNo one in their right mind would choose the byu-p
coaching gig over Utah. Laughable.
Playing in a league where you can't possibly finish lower than third (or
seldom higher, as the past has proven) and no matter what having to win only two
games a year (in the conference tournament) for the league automatic bid makes
it pretty easy to get in the NCAA tournament.
@Minnesota UteTrue, but the expectation in Provo is for BYU-P's
basketball team to simply come close to getting into the tournament. Actually
getting a bid, or heaven forbid, winning a game or two, isn't necessary. To
have the bar set that low makes the BYU-P coaching job a pretty sweet gig.
@mark321 - but I can't imagine working in the U's Athletic Dept...that
would be brutal...
That's not saying a lot
In those 11 NCAA tournament appearances since 2000 the mighty cougars have a
total of 4 wins. That's right. Their record in the NCAA tourney since the
year 2000 is 4 wins and 11 losses. That's a win percentage of 26.667%.
Maybe someone should remind them the goal is to get to the tourney and WIN some
The best job? I don't know about that. It's a good job, but Coach K
has a pretty good gig in Utah and although records aren't made public on
how much BYU coaches are paid, I bet Coach K makes substantially more.
