Donald Trump just signed an Executive Order requiring the Justices to prosecute
to the FULL and MAXIMUM extent of the law possible => NO exceptions.
So just who is going to punish kids for not going to class? I work in Provo
City School District and we adopted an extremely weak attendance policy a few
years ago that basically just encourages kids to go to class but offers no
immediate consequences for those who do not go. From what I hear, other
districts are adopting this policy as well because it absolves them from all
responsibility in getting kids to class. It puts the burden on parents. So
schools are going in the direction of no punishment within the school for
truancy and the only potential punishment used to be truancy court. Now
that's going away. State law says kids have to attend 90% of the time, but
who is going to make them??
