Surprised Mr. Hollis would write an article so clearly from only one team's
point of view. Why no representation of the Davis side? This is high school
sports, and it seems to me coverage should represent both sides equally. About the officiating: a red card for each team, a PK for each team.
When players commit fouls, the referee makes a call, that's how the game
works. I would expect a high school coach to take accountability for the play of
his team rather than blame the referee in the media. I believe college and pro
coaches would be fined for remarks like that.
I was at the game, and the officiating seemed VERY one-sided to me. I guess
Davis got the biased calls, and Syracuse got preference in the article....This article also can read as an underdog highlight piece. Last year,
Syracuse did not win more than two region games, but this year they beat the
state champs on Viewmont's own field. Now they are solidly in 3rd, with a
shot at higher. It will be interesting to see what the standings look like in
another couple weeks.
Did Mr. Hollis spend the entire game talking to the Syracuse coach and players?
I don't see a single comment from a Davis player or coach.
