    Glad to be Retired:

    Happy to oblige! There is an online utility that lets Utahns enter their current MPG and miles driven daily to compare the total greenhouse gases produced with those of an electric vehicle. However, since Deseret News doesn't allow URL links in the comments, I will simply report the results using the U.S. averages: 25 MPG at 37 miles per day.

    AVERAGE CAR:
    7.25 lbs. GHG upstream
    + 29 lbs. GHG tailpipe
    ==========
    36.25 lbs. GHG TOTAL per day
    ($4.35 fuel cost for gasoline)

    NISSAN LEAF EV:
    10.60 lbs. GHG upstream
    + 0 lbs. NO tailpipe
    ==========
    10.60 lbs. GHG TOTAL per day
    ($1.21 fuel cost for electricity)

    Hope this helps!

    Will someone explain to me how eliminating pollution generated by an auto and increase pollution to generate electricity really make sense? I need facts and figures not verbal arguments!
