Do you really not understand how FBS football works? Look at the Week 1 schedule, at least half of the P5 teams have a warm up game or two.

So why is a supposed P-5 school even playing this game?

    You're confusing BYU with Utah.

    Utah
Starts with: #199 ISU (ranked much worse than BYU's opening opponent)
Ends with: #80 Colorado (ranked worse than BYU's closing opponent)

    BYU
    Starts with: #101 Connecticut
    Ends with: #71 California

    hmmmm

It's obvious who is really confused here.

Math like Utah has TWO weak teams as bookends, BYU has FIVE weak teams as book ends?

Please let us know which set of weak teams you would rather play:

    A) #199 ISU and #80 Colorado

    B) #101 UConn and #99 Middle Tennessee, #95 UNLV, #246 Savannah State, #71 Cal

You obviously have BYU confused with your new "rival", Colorado.

Thompson is extremely talented and capable. What he lacks is game time experience. I hope/expect Thompson to play most of the second half this evening. The coaches realize he needs playing time and I think he'll get it over the next two games.

I'm looking forward to watching him play. He may well be the starter for the season is over.

Here's to hoping the U can get off on the right foot and not only win tonight but dominate and show promise on offense. Only then might the U have a reason to be optimistic about the rest of the brutal schedule. Only a crazy good showing tonight will give optimism for 5 or 6 wins on the season.

Sad to think that before the first game of the season, Utah is looking at this as a most-win game to be bowl eligible. With six clear defeats looming later in the schedule, Utah can't take Idaho State, Fresno State or Washington State too lightly.

Sounds like you have lots of options tonight. Enjoy.

As for me and my house, we choose the Pac-12 Network.

Why? Because the play by play analysis, understanding of the teams, and absence of bias is far, far more professional than ESPN. As with all things Pac-12, the Network is first class. In fact, the only time I watch ESPN is if there is a Pac-12 game on. Otherwise, it's the Pac-12 Network.

    As I said...enjoy your evening.

I'm not sure why you think TW cann't get out of the pocket and run? He's definitely not as quick as Thompson, but Wilson has some wheels when he gets into space. He has 9 rushing TD's in his career, including one last season where he took it 51 yards to the house...

Either through injury or ineffectiveness, Travis probably won't survive as Utah's starter through September.

Unfortunately for Kendal, by the time he gets the starting job, the Utes will be into the difficult part of their schedule, so not much will change as far as the effectiveness of Utah's offense.

  • sooner1 edmond, OK
    Aug. 28, 2014 9:33 a.m.

Kendal Thompson second string at OU? Not accurate, he was sidelined before the first game of season last year. The quarterback depth at Oklahoma, as all positions at a national championship caliber program is needless to say very deep.
This kid transferred to Utah to help turn around the program. If you are satisfied with losing then more of the same seems to make sense. I'm sure Wilson will look great against nobody state, but when you start what truly is a grinding schedule...(I have respect for the PAC 12)...it's is highly probable you will need Thompson to come in and save your season.
We shall see..... All I'm saying is you have seen what Wilson can do.... Decent arm but no mobility ....
You need a Kendal Thompson in the high paced offense you are attempting to run....
Hope you make it to a bowl game.... If not you can watch Oklahoma play in the first ever college playoffs..

As a BYU fan and a fan of football in the state of Utah I would rather see Utah beat BYU than play Idaho St tonight (@IndeMak). The reason the whole issue of P5 conferences being required to play another P5 conference is not because they don't want them playing BYU, it's because they want them to stop playing DII teams(@Spokane Ute). I hate pre-season NFL, and I hate out of conference college football. Not because of mid majors but because of the DII games. I know BYU has a DII game this season as well, and I don't like that either. If you're going to do it, call it scrimmage and sell discounted tickets - but don't call it one of your 12 games by which you are being evaluated on, and don't make me pay full price for a ticket.

By the end of the second lap, the "NASCAR" will be in a mangled heap up against the wall on the back straightaway. They will piece together the same bucket of bolts for next year, but will have a new driver.

The problem is, when you look under the hood, there's a Subaru six cylinder motor. Sure it makes lots of noise, but it just doesn't belong on the same track as the big boys. They should probably stick to the NasKart track down off of 4oth South.

I'm admittedly an unabashedly biased Cougar, but more than anything I'm glad to hear Wilson's health is to the point where he can play again. I never like seeing a kid from any school end a career on an issue like what threatened him last year. This might be old news for all of you, but outside of football season, I really don't pay attention to what's going on. Wish him the best of luck and for maybe the first time ever, I agree with a Ute coach in that I'm so excited for the season to start I can barely see straight.

Not sure I understand the excitement about having a returning quarterback with
a horrible record!??? The Ute's brought in Kendal Thompson from one of the
top programs in the country to give the Ute's a new look and turn things around.
It sounds to this okie that as long as Wilson is at the helm, Ute's can expect more
    of the same :(

In today's college football a QB in this offense needs the ability to extend a play
