What? Why? The headline a few days ago made it sound like the Unga signing was as big as the Lebron James going back to Cleveland deal.

It's a tough, tough job.

I hope the guys on football scholarships take note and show their wisdom and gratitude for the academic opportunity by keeping their grades up, since it's very unlikely they will land a long-term career in the NFL.

NFL ....Not For Long

I'm hoping Cody and Harvey get another chance. Well, Harvey has been at it now for 3 or 4 years so I guess he's had a fair shot.
Cody has amazing hand eye coordination and body control, and with his height he beats the cornerback 7/10 times even when he is covered. Play to his strengths, and I think he'd be awsome in the NFL. He's gotta be better than a lot of guys on NFL rosters. So he runs a 4.6 40. I believe a guy named Jerry Rice ran a 4.5. I'd rather have a guy that can catch than a track star.

The disparaging comments about these football players are way over the top. What difference does it make what school they played for? The fact of the matter is they are human beings and men in need of jobs to support themselves and sometimes their families. Stop the nonsense of mocking them for no other reason than they attended a different University than you. It says something about a person (and its not good) when he revels in the failure of others.

Chris B. yeah it is to bad 2 BYU legends could not find a home in the nfl. The nfl is not for everyone. Just ask utah's last consensus All American. Sakoda just got cut from the Canadian league.

Sweeper: No need to bad mouth Harvey Unga and Cody Hoffman on this post. There are many who know and love both these guys and all that they contributed to the BYU football program. Why do some people enjoy spewing so much hate? We need to support and love one another more in this world no matter what team they represent.

Good luck Harvey and Cody in finding a good place to land. You both deserve the best!

Liking your comment wasn't enough - well said and, while needed, will almost certainly go unheeded.

This absurd, negative, ad nauseum commenting by both BYU fans and Utah fans on anything related to the other school is beneath what dignity the writers may believe they have. U who fans think they've been elevated through their affiliation with the PAC12 need to take a lesson from the fans of the other members of the conference in the way they show their fanaticism. It's bush league behavior that makes this U alum ashamed. My immediate neighbors are UCLA, USC, Colorado, and Stanford grads. Their reports of Utah fan behavior at games they've attended at RES and their home stadiums would make even "Proud PAC12 member" Chris B embarrassed of the association.

I actually feel the worst about Joe Kruger, even as a BYU fan. I felt he should have stayed at Utah another year. I think his team could have used his help and he could have improved himself as a player and finished his degree. It surprised me when he declared but wished he could have made it work.

Sorry to see Unga and Hoffman cut. Hopefully they'll find their niche with teams where they fit in better--unclear whether either ever really had much of a chance to show what they could do in game situations. Especially Hoffman put with a QB who can deliver the ball would be really fun to watch.

Just FYI, Chris B/"Seniors" and friends: We at ASU *still* remember the epic-fail-rush-the-field-incident at the Fiesta Bowl. Yes, my friends, Tempe police are STILL zero-tolerance and carry Tasers. Act like you've been there, willya? Start talking smack once your own team's actually keeping anyone up at night. Go cheer for them once in a while, sounds like they could use it! Sheesh. Kids. Just curious, how many immediate UCLA, USC, Colorado, and Stanford grad neighbors that attended a game at RES did you survey?

Because according to the Bureau of Economic and Business Research study your analysis is wrong:

"A total of 321 out-of-state attendees to the five Pac-12 home games [in 2012] were surveyed ... about their attitudes of Salt Lake City and the University.

Visitors were asked their impressions of the area both before and after their visits. In every instance, favorable impressions increased, and neutral or unfavorable impressions decreased after visiting the area.

Notably, 73 percent of first-time visitors surveyed said they were more likely to visit Utah again for reasons other than a football game."

According to the NFL Players Association the average career length is about 3.3 years. So Unga is right, this isn't for everyone.

Sorry folks. A loss by 50 or a loss by 1 still shows as a loss. A win by 50 or a win by 1 still shows up as a win. Anything else is just speculation.

Oh Really, please research a little more. Star was first team on three ballots AP, Scout, WCFF. That is not a consensus all american. The defensive linemen CONSENSUS all americans for 2012 were Jadeveon Clowney, Bjorn Warner, Will Sutton and Damontre Moore.

From first hand experience I know how it sucks to have your dreams crash and burn around you. Although I bleed crimson, I wish nothing but the best for these guys (particularly Kruger, for obvious reasons). At least they got close enough to the stars to feel the warmth.
