@Owl: "Our president does not believe the US has a moral right or
responsibility to fight for global human dignity." Owl could you please
give us some specifics to back up your statement?@Anchovey
"Please leave the golf course and lead by example, President Obama."
Anchovey please feel free to step away from the AM radio, that script lost its
punch days ago!I have been one of Krauthammers biggest critics, but
would be a hypocrite if I didn't give him credit for his opinions in
today's column. IMO he hit the nail on the head!
Looking at FDR's vision of a post-WW II world, he saw the US as actively
opposing tyranny. Mr. Obama has rejected that vision which was shared by Truman,
JFK, Lindon Johnson not to mention several Republican presidents. Our president
does not believe the US has a moral right or responsibility to fight for global
human dignity. The 2014 elections may tell us if the US voters share his

just run itself. The criminal irresponsibility, that so characterized
GW Bush, has never been evident in Al Gore.

Oh wow! Krauthammer has discovered that "Airstrikes work."Well, we know that. That's why Obama ordered them . . . While Krauthammer
was whining about Obama's alleged "diffidence."And you
know what? Obama doesn't care one iota that Charles Krauthammer approves
of his airstrikes.But I do.Krauthammer has made a career
out of being wrong. Krauthammer consistently praised the Bush administration,
and looked what happened there.I would hate to see
Krauthammer's praise jinx Obama,
It's not as cut and dried as the headline suggests. We are never, ever,
ever going to go after Kim Jong Un in North Korea. A regime guilty of atrocities
that at least rival isis. I sense that the priority for stopping the worst
people on earth is modified by what's beneath the ground of the country
they are in.
Yes, the role of a great power is, in part, stopping the worst people on
Earth.Good thing that Barack is doing his level best to make sure
the US is no longer a great power, isn't it?
@911 fanThe incidents you cite that have happened under BO's watch
were small and typical occurances in the dangerous world in which we live.
Things like those have and will always happen no matter who is in the WH. Bush was president for 9 months and his administration ignored the warnings of
a domestic plot as was exposed in the 911 commission. His administration was on
watch and has to assume most of the responsibility of the tragedies of it. His
immature and illogical response resulted in 100's of thousands of deaths
and cost billions of dollars along with tarnishing our country's
international reputation. He mis-led or lied to the people of our country and
the world. I don't know how any person can say he made the world or us
safer after 911. Close to 5,000 Americans died on his watch after 911 and
whether they happen on our soil or overseas it's irrelevant. If there is
any justice in this world or in the after life he'll be held accountable
for his tragic decisions.
The President that got Bin Laden is the best choice to deal with this situation.
What did Charles say when the Iraq fiasco started?
Every President faces challenges. I hope President Obama will choose to work
with elected leaders and listen to seasoned advisors who are "in the
trenches" and on the front lines rather than family friend, Valerie Jarrett.
Please leave the golf course and lead by example, President Obama. The phone
and the pen have to be replaced with eye to eye across the table respectful
engagement with those the people have elected to represent them...
FTFt. Hood, Benghazi, James Foley, Little Rock recruiting office,
and several attempted that did not go off. Obamas record of keeping us safe is
not near as good as Bushs' was post 911. And Obama is now doing more of
what Bush did to keep us safe from terrorists. Namely, using the military. And
yes we have "boots on the ground" over there. Don't kid yourself
that this is all being handled by air power. Finally remember. 911 was plotted
during the Clinton Presidency. It happened less than 9 months into Bushs term.
911 would have happened to President Gore had he been in office.
After 6 years in office, BO has managed to reverse the terrible course the
neo-cons put our country and the world on. Their policies killed 100's of
thousands, destroyed cultures and destabilized the Middle East. Contrary to
what Faux News and uninformed parrot heads repeat out on the internet our
country and world is in a much better place.Radical muslims will always be
a threat and up to this point BO and his policies have managed to keep them
contained and America safe. Two things the GOP and the neo-cons were unable to
do. Those are undisbutable facts.
RoniteWell, your numbers are a little off, as there are some 1.6
billion Muslims in the world today, and at 10% that would amount to about 160
million. But your overall point is very significant. Even if only 1% of
Muslims were radicalized, that would amount to some 10 million soldiers of
Islam. A worldwide 10 million man army, particularly one that will use suicide
as a means of fighting, is a danger everyone needs to be concerned with. And
again, that with only 1%. If it is 5% then we are talking some 50 million.
That is an army that, if ever unified to the fight, will be very hard to defeat.
I once heard it said that an estimated 10% of muslims are "radical"
enough to be violent and participate in "terrorist" activities.
What's that: 300 to 400 million? "Containment" might be as much
of an impossibility as "winning." Mexico has been aligned with radical
Islam for years and has helped radicals bent on America's destruction
enter the U.S. They are already in every part of the country, probably in every
Actually and shockingly, I agree with most of what Charles says here. It is a
most rational review of the current state, with only a few things taken out of
context - but the message overall is accurate. Where I think Charles misses the
big picture is in this the statement "But for a serious rollback campaign,
Obama will need public support. "Actually he doesn't. The
is the role of President, to sometimes do the right thing even when it lacks
popularity. The issue he has that Charles seems to be avoiding is that to do
much more, Obama needs to enact the War Powers Act - and needs the approval of
congress. As we have seen, congress has not approved of anything Obama has done
- it turns rapidly into a partisan mud wrestling match. The situation right now
is serious enough that to entangle it in such political gamesmanship would bring
the whole process to a halt.Obama seems to be trying to fly under
the radar of needing congressional approval for actions. Ultimately he will
need to go there - and it will be congresses approval he needs - not the
publics. The question becomes will congress do the right thing.
" They openly, proudly crucify enemies, enslave women and murder men en
masse."This is a true statement. ISIS is Islam at its worst.
And as for Islam in general, its worst feature is the subjugation of women. All
of the Abrahamic faiths seek to diminish women, but Islam is the worst.
