"Does Facebook think users are dumb?"

Just having to ask the question provides the answer.

Is Facebook correct in thinking that users are dumb?

Statistics say that the answer is .... .

Well, OK, so not "dumb" more like "lacking in sufficient factual knowledge to enable critical evaluation to be made without outside assistance". (A situation which affects the majority of people in North America. [Which is not to say that it doesn't affect the majority of people worldwide.])

You may call it an obvious move, but how many times have people been punked by falling for an Onion story? Including people who should definitely know better, such as politicians, news reporters, and other very public individuals. Heck, some commentators on stories in this paper have quoted Onion articles thinking they were fact.
