Absolutely ridiculous! Dems lost last election, why hold an expensive election just for them to lose again - are they wanting to pay for it? It is customary in almost every state to replace a vacancy without a full election.

Corroon is fighting a lost battle, that's right he has lost it before it began. He picked the wrong fight. Even if Corroon did get a vote, the Senate District Valentine lives in is held very strongly by the Republicans. The reality is that the Democrats have no chance of winning this seat. All Corroon is doing is getting a little publicity, and embarrassing the Democratic Party (it shows his lack of knowing which fights he can win, which he might win, and which he has no chance of winning. Utah County is in the no change category.)

Carvalho: No doubt, but it doesn't excuse the Republicans...though that type of analogy is often used as the way to excuse what one side or the other does.

Is that why Illinois re-elected ROSTENKOWSKI after he was convicted of stealing from the house post office? (Sorry for all caps, but the I haven't bothered turning off the auto correct on my tablet, and it keeps changing it to "Rosen know ski")

But I get a kick out of the libs, had Valentine resigned before being confirmed, they would have criticized him for being presumptuous. And tell me, was there a vote to fill Barry's senate seat, or did Blagojevich just sell it? Oh yeah, the latter.

Let us vote. Surely the recent debacle with Swallow and Shurtleff has awoken everyone to the idea that this one party dominance is NOT a good thing.

"They're all corrupt ... everyone does it."

Yes, I think that's what they said when Nixon was caught.

Let's not pretend that the Democrats would have done anything different here. And, I frequently vote for Democrats.

It's all about power. Sadly, the Repubs wield the power and there is no honor is those who fills the seats. I completely agree with Max. This seat belongs to the people not the party. This should be determined by open election.

Regardless of the reason or timing for an elected official leaving office before their term, why do the parties get to chose and not the voters. Are we really so lazy and cheap about our democracy that we can't pay for a special election?

I think it is ridiculous the seat belongs to the Party and not the voters.
