Automatic Andy!

I had to leave a post on this article because, from what I have heard, kickers and punters are people too.

We are lucky to have such a great and talented special teams unit this year.

Go Utes!

Kicking game, check!
Defense, check!
The only question is our offense and the kick return game.

No linebackers equates to no defense .

These guys are great ST players, Hackett is a weapon and will no doubt be a big factor again for the Utes this season. The variety of punts he has with his Aussie rules and rugby style kicks adds a great element to the game. Cool to see that two of the best punters in the country are in Utah with Hacket and Bailey Kenter at Layton Christian Academy.

I'd heard that before he left for Weber State Coach Humsaker had been keen to have Kenter at the Utes to replace Hackett once he graduated. Not sure if Utah are still looking at that as an option but as a Utes fan I'd be wrapped to see that happen.

Good luck to Andy and Tom this year.

I guess when you get to punt on every possession your stats would go up. Not the best stat to be ranked in.

Many people like to malign the kickers, but they are a critical part of the game. Many games are won and lost when this part of the game is strong or struggles. Nice to know the Utes are solid here.

It's good we have a couple great kickers. I think we will be doing a lot of kicking this year. It might be the only thing that keeps us in the game.

BYU 85 punts 39.7
Utah 76 punts 43.4
USU 73 punts 39.8 I'll take Hacketts numbers any day!

Interesting that byU had almost 10 more punts yet averaged almost 4 yards less. huh?

The Aussie and Skier are awesome!

Go Utes!

Good to hear! Glad that the kicking game will once again become a strength for the team.

Had that been the case in 2011 the team would have gone to the CCG and would likely never have lost to the Aggies and been bowl eligible in 2012.

I'm really glad to hear they have good kickers. They will be punting the ball an awful lot this year. Probably get recognized as PAC 12 Team with most punts, least amount of 3rd down conversions etc.

Can't wait to see it all!

@UC Aggie:
"I'll take Hackett's numbers any day"...agree impressive.....however there is another side of the coin, USU's punter was amazing at pinning their opponents deep with short pooch punts. It is a real skill, like being handy with a pitching wedge, not just a driver.

tinplater, Hackett's freshman year, he was behind another great senior punter, Sean Sellwood, on the depth chart, but still saw the field for that exact reason: directional punting on the short side of the field. If you call him "just a driver," you've obviously never seen him kick, and blatantly show your bias.

Thanks byU faithful for showing your reliance on all things Utah. I love responses on even the kicker stories. Sheer entertainment. It must be boring following your own team, I guess.

You are all welcome on Utah stories any time. We love that you love our team so much!

Go Utes!
