Mike Lee complains about the political culture in Washington but seemed to have no qualms over participating in it himself. Stay classy Utah.

Watch Mike. Watch Mike run. Watch Mike run away from the fact that he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Poor Mike.

Re: "The allegations . . . are the subject of a complaint filed with the Federal Election Commission in June by the left-leaning Alliance for a Better Utah."

The fact that the so-called Alliance [all three of them, two from out of state] is involved pretty much tells us all we need to know about the issue.

Wait - I thought Mike Lee was a "Tea Party" member and not part of the old Washington establishment that has been crippling our country. How can this be?

Maybe the fact, apparently lost on Utah voters, that Mr Lee's spent his entire career as a Wachingtom lobbyist before being elected as as "outsider" would explain this....

Just two more years before Mike has to run in a primary where the majority of Utah Republicans, Independents and not to mention Democrats, want to call him home. He's been a failure for Utah and our country. We deserve and will get better.

Bored to the point of THIS!

Illegal donations happen every year in every election. Fact!

The question for me is whether or not he knew about it. If not, I'm okay with it. He, nor any person, can police everyone else. If he knew, I hope he's aggressively dismissed from his duties.

Until we know the truth, we should not convict or exonerate based on our own personal political beliefs.

I think Mike Lee is one of the best Senators in our nation and I'm proud he represents Utah. I hope this situation can be cleared up quickly and cleanly.

Obviously, campaign finance is still a huge issue in our country or we wouldn't constantly be seeing stories about it.

What an excellent joke! I needed a good laugh during a hard day at work, and that provided it. I really hope that nobody takes your comment seriously or, even worse, actually believes it because it is the exact opposite of the truth. Mike Lee is one of, if not THE, absolutely worst Senators in office and he does a terrible job representing anybody but those on the extreme far right fringes of the political spectrum. It's long past time to bring him home in disgrace.

Thanks for your comment but is it a case of attacking the messenger rather than the message?

Is there any substance in the claim that Jeremy Johnson gave money to individuals with the purpose of they inturn givie it to Mike Lee's campaign?

My personal feeling is that Utah politics is starting to insult my intelligence.

I am tired of being manipulated.

What you'll get if you elect Mike Leavitt is big $ government. If that's what you want, great, but be prepared to pay the price...higher taxes, slow growth, and less freedom.

I am not always in synch with Mike's politics nor his methods.... but in this case I will give him the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise. It is completely consistent that you can have "fans" who go overboard ignoring the rules in an attempt to win. In college sports we see it all the time - policing those who would try to get around the rules to help their team win. With politics, the stakes are even higher, and it is completely consistent that there would be well intended people who would break the rules in the name of the greater good - and that the candidate wouldn't know about it.

So again... not impressed with Mike's Tea Party roots, but I have no reason to question his ethics - yet.

Let's look with equal determination into every Democrat candidate in the country as well.

Mike Lee's laundry may have a few small spots and stains, but many Democrats' laundry is filthy beyond recognition.

why is the Alliance characterized as 'left-leaning? what did it add to the article?

Lee was losing his home when he was elected. I'll bet he has a lot more money today than the day he took office.
In fact when he retires from Senate I'll bet he's a millionaire. He's as corrupt as they come.

The sad thing is you have to have a campaign staff and pray they are honest or
not only is he going down but he will take you with him. You can't watch everybody every minute and I believe Johnson is one of those individuals who too many candidates trusted and are paying a severe price and are left trying to pick up the pieces.
I for one like Mike Lee and will gladly vote for him again.
I hope this situation is over quickly for Mike. Just the fact that
he trying to get it straight gives me hope.
As for the haters out there you can disagree without being so nasty.
That alone would keep anyone with good sense from even considering your opinion.

I think it is sad that some can say such hateful things about Senator Mike Lee and have the DN actually print those remarks. We have personally heard Mike speak several times, once with Ted Cruz. Mike is a brilliant and astute Constitutional scholar. I wish we had more like him in Washington, D.C. if we want to save this country. Utah should be proud of this great man. I surely am! He's a credit to his father, the late Rex Lee.

@ procur fiscal "The fact that the so-called Alliance [all three of them, two from out of state] is involved pretty much tells us all we need to know about the issue."

Says one of the biggest Swallow defenders.

So after Swallow you still seem intent on placing party ahead of the well-being of the state? But now, instead of the boogeyman being the Feds and Sam Gill, it's not the Alliance for Better Utah? Awesome.

Unfortunately, for you, most of us value getting rid of corruption first before defending corrupt politicians. Judging by what's happening to Shurtleff and Swallow, if I'm Lee I'm getting nervous. Then again, he'll be gone in 2 years anyway. So mike better make the most of the time he has left! Maybe another government shutdown is in the works?

This is exactly what is wrong here. Sorry to break it to you DN Subsciber, but Democrats have been looked into, and in the last 6 months four have been arrested. It unfortunately never surprises me how one side always views itself as victims and perceives the other side of somehow getting away with something. Wouldn't it be novel to just demand that laws were enforced regardless of party affiliation, and stop making excuses for anyone, regardless of their party links. Good golly will we ever grow out of this silly partisanship!

Mike is doing a great job trying to bring the ship of state back to a course that most Americans want, smaller government, less debt, and more open. It ruffles a few feathers obviously and the lefty groups are grasping at straws looking for ways to tarnish his efforts. Go Mike Go.
