I was looking for dates. Is the fair still going? Where is it located? Times?

Although cute, this is a terrible picture to put in the paper. I am an official in our county's fair and we work very hard to educate the public about consumer safety.

People have gotten sick from contact with fair animals and the animals can be harmed by the germs that people carry. A child should never be encouraged to kiss a strange animal. Not only is it not sanitary, but the child could be bitten.

Common sense isn't as typical as some would like to think. We can blame the litigious American society, but safety should always be our top consideration, whether we worry about getting sued or not. Knowledge increases, practices change and people who work in agriculture need to be more vigilant than ever. Pictures like the one in the article promote unsafe practices and an unhealthy view of what animals are.

Oh, the horror!! I hope he used a sanitary wet wipe before that big mushy kiss. (Hope the kid did, too)

Safety first or not, this is an adorable photo of an innocent child and one of my favorite creatures: a goat.
