Good Matchup, Good Field, Good tournament. Win or lose, games like this always help the resume.

that's a good matchup to start. Its great that they avoided Chaminade in round 1. But this increases the stakes for the 1st round, because if the Cougs lose then they will very likely have to play Chaminade in the losers bracket. Because Cougars need help with schedule strength at this tournament, any game against Chaminade here is basically a wasted game.

Great matchup. This is where I really miss being in the MWC...basketball season. MWC is/was a beast conference in mens bball.

This will be a great matchup. It was always fun to play against great mw teams like San Diego St. Their fan base is rabid and sometimes inapropriate but very intense about their team. Great game and it will definately help with our SOS. Go Cougs!

San Diego State fans are some of the best in the country. I always love the "energy" they bring to byu game. Never afraid to let byu fans and players hear it! All fans should follow their example. They treat byu like byu should be treated. Cheers everyone!

Go Cougars! Will be good to see a game vs SDSU again.

Awesome, we LOVE beating these guys! Does anyone know if SDSU still pretends this is a rivalry?

BYU isn't a rival to SDSU in basketball. SDSU has continued to improve and build a "program". BYU has remained pretty much a bubble team in the WCC where they haven't sniffed a conference title.

2011 - BYU (#3 seed, Sweet Sixteen) / SDSU (#2 seed, Sweet Sixteen)
2012 - BYU (NCAA Tourney First Four) / SDSU (NCAA Tourney #6 seed)
2013 - BYU (NIT) / SDSU (NCAA Tourney #7 seed, 2nd round)
2014 - BYU (#10 seed) / SDSU (#4 seed, sweet sixteen)

SDSU is expecting to be playing Arizona in the finals in Maui. BYU is hoping to build their SOS. You have two basketball programs with much different expectations.

We would do better and for sure win but we don't need to go there now because we are in the pac conference of champions and that makes us champions also now.

Go Utes!

We are treated like we should be treated in the pac because they take us seriously there and like us like brothers because we win a lot.

Go Utes!

SDSU is one of the best rivals of BYU. Whoever says they aren't are kidding themselves and know nothing of history. SDSU played BYU in great games in the 80's in football and was an awesome rivalry in bball. Their fans actually know how to be fans of a supposed hated rival and don't use immaturity like most of the others who claim to be BYU's rival. SDSU is one of my favorite teams to play, especially in basketball. I have spoken to many others who feel SDSU is probably the best rival outside of utah. I ran into a SDSU fan a few years ago and she said SDSU fans consider BYU one of their biggest rivals.

Can't wait for this game!

"You have two basketball programs with much different expectations." Name those expectations. Every team's goal is to get to the big dance. BYU and SDSU are right there almost every year.

@Spokane Ute -- very much liked your comments, though I would disagree with one. It looks good on the resume' only if there's a "W" next to it.

I sure wish Utah State would dump the Gossner/World Vision/whatever they are calling it these days tournament and play in something like this. Of course, this is assuming we can even field a team this year. :P

BYU is 6 and 2 against SDSU in their last 8 meetings. Last year they won both contests against SDSU. The results are the best indicator of what direction each of the programs are headed. I like the rivalry and I think that SDSU is a quality program. That being said, don't spout about how BYU is a stagnate programs and SDSU is transcendent. The results speak for themselves.

My comment above was in response to @Max for President's comment "Does anyone know if SDSU still pretends this is a rivalry?"

Since 2011, BYU has been a bubble team at best while SDSU has been a firm NCAA team with another trip to the sweet sixteen. Most of the comments from BYU fan's online talk about not playing Chaminade because it'll hurt BYU's SOS. Compare these comments to SDSU fans who fully expect a rematch with Arizona, who SDSU lost to in the sweet 16. Expectations for the two programs are definitely different.

AS- Head to head competition is the best measurement of the programs rivalry. I love the rivalry but the realities of where both teams fit into the mix are what they are. Expectations are not reality. The reality is that BYU has owned this rivalry over the past 3 years. That is not putting SDSU down and SDSU may very well own BYU in the future. The seedings of the sweet 16 are affected by many factors and the results are affected by the initial seedings. Any assertion that SDSU is somehow a superior program in football or basketball are unfounded. Its that simple. That having been said, I love the rivalry, which it definitely is a good rivalry.

How is Steve Fisher still with us? That guy is at least 900 years old.

This will be a fun rematch of the final mwc championship game three years ago. One of the commenters has not been paying attention because these two teams have not played since Byu changed to the WCC. Steve fisher is a great coach and has brought the Aztec program from near death to the hottest ticket in town. Already sold out for the season. Before Steve fisher I will concede that Byu had their way with the Aztecs. But in the three years since Byu left the MWC SDSU has ranked in the top 25 consistently improving recruiting and talent. I'm sorry to see this rivalry gone as it has become more even since coach fisher took over. I still feel like Byu sold out their other sports teams for football and that's a shame. Looking forward to the matchup on Hawaii
