"Whenever the vicious portion of the population shall be permitted to gather
in bands of hundreds and thousands, and burn churches, ravage and rob provision
stores, throw printing presses into rivers, shoot editors, and hang and burn
obnoxious persons at pleasure, and with impunity; depend on it, this government
cannot last."--Abraham LincolnThat is the issue here. Our
society can not let criminals roam at will and go unpunished. Funding for law
enforcement, prosecution, and the courts must be increased. A society is only
as good as the treatment of its elders.
What in the world? Crime rates are actually at the lowest (per capita) since
the 70's. Yes, we do hear/read about so much crime one would think it was
a crisis of impending doom rather than just sensualized news.
